Orthopedic surgery encompasses any type of surgery related to the human musculoskeletal system. This is the organ system required for movement, and includes the muscular system, the skeletal system, and the connective tissue that holds everything together. Some examples of connective tissues would be ligaments, tendons, cartilage, and joints. Orthopedic surgery might be required if you have experienced musculoskeletal injuries, trauma, infections, joint problems, and more. These procedures can also correct degenerative diseases and congenital disorders. If you need orthopedic surgery or total joint replacement, you will also need education, insurance authorization, pre-surgery testing and post surgical care and rehabilitation. Joint Replacement Class
Our pre-surgery orientation class will help you and a family member or caregiver prepare for surgery as well as for rehabilitation at the hospital and at home.
During this class, you will receive information about:
The surgical procedure including a tour of the hospital
Factors that determine your length of stay in the hospital after surgery
Average recovery period to resume normal activity
The role of the nursing and rehabilitation staff in your recovery
Care and therapy you will receive before, during and after surgery
How we help control and manage pain throughout the process
Preparations for leaving the hospital
Answers to any other questions you may have
